TomTom EV service aims to make range anxiety a thing of the past, by providing EV drivers relevant, real-time information allowing them to plan their journey and make better decisions.
Range anxiety is the main barrier for people when considering buying an electric vehicle.
The TomTom EV Service tackles the issue of range anxiety. It has been specifically designed to provide information to drivers on EV charging stations, their location, connector types offered and real-time availability information. Drivers can use the information to identify the available and most suitable charging station around them or at another location. Hence, they have the required information to plan their route accordingly and never run out of battery.
TomTom Maps is already equipped with the location of EV charging stations, listed as “EV POIs”.
TomTom provides the service according to the TPEG2-EMI specifications defined by the Traveler Information Services Association (TISA). In the future, there will also be API’s available on our developer portal and for our government and enterprise customers.
The TomTom EV service will initially launch in Europe with a Geo-Expansion planned for North America early next year. After this expansion, we will have a coverage of 45,000+ stations globally with real-time availability information and 60,000+ stations with static information.
Initially, the coverage will be most extensive in Western-Europe. Over the course of 2018, TomTom will work towards a broader coverage in the remainder of the original coverage list.
